Martin Reiher: “It (wander) gave me the place and time to analyze the recent world, and how I can contribute to affect it positively.

To start with things 1st: I recorded the video footage on April twelve, 2020. Sporting masks in community was not however recommended by the government.

It was only
five times into the “circuit breaker” in Singapore. At that position, the circumstance
was not unexpected – however absolutely unprecedented: Perform from household, take in at household,
have (digital) discussions from household, relax at home…whatever you do, just
continue to be at household! How would I deal with this in the months, or even months, to arrive?

Luckily for us,
we’re authorized to exercise outside the house and go for walks. So, I did precisely that on
the 1st Sunday. I took my ideas and my GoPro on a stroll via the vacant
streets of Singapore’s Chinatown and CBD. Ridiculous! I have in no way witnessed this city
like that. Normally packed with hundreds of people, visitors from all all around the
world, consumers, retailer entrepreneurs marketing meals, tea, gadgets or souvenirs while
shouting and taking part in a cacophony of way-way too-loud songs, and now…Nothing.
No one. Quiet.

I stuffed
the serene emptiness with my ideas.

What if
this isn’t just a stage? What if we acquired thrown off the treadmill as we tried out to
operate more rapidly than we could? What if we need to rethink our habits and our
existence completely? What needs to improve – what do I need to
improve?
So, I puzzled and wandered,
researching my unreeling reflections.

I’m a
die-challenging optimist. That does not signify I overlook the blazing fires all around me, it
signifies that I hold looking for the fireplace hose. I imagine that we will come to be
more robust and, hopefully, additional resourceful via this time. The earth desired
the sluggish- down, and so did we – and so did I.

There are
things that I dearly skip. There are things that I have to sacrifice, potentially,
completely. Which is not easy but it may well be for the superior. It demands
adaptation and creativeness. And as just about every journey has it, it commences with the
1st stage. For me, it was that Sunday wander via the vacant streets of
Singapore. It gave me the place and time to analyze the recent world, and how
I can contribute to affect it positively.

I created this
video to capture this exclusive time and my reflections, and to share it with my
pals and relatives who, I realized, I wouldn’t be equipped to see for a while.

Remaining at household is a price to pay…but I sense like I can make it really worth it.
